Most pet birds outside Australia are the south-eastern form. roseicapilla, although the extent and nature of the central hybrid zone remains undefined. albiceps, is clearly distinct from the paler-bodied Western Australian nominate subspecies, E. Slight variation exists in the colours of the plumage and in the extent of the carunculation of the eye rings among the three subspecies. The significance of these two (and other) characteristics shared by the Cacatuinae had previously been explained away in earlier studies by strict application of parsimony on misinterpreted data. Today, the galah is seen, along with Major Mitchell's cockatoo, as an early divergence from the white cockatoo lineage, which has not completely lost its ability to produce an overall pink (Major Mitchell's) or pink and grey (galah) body plumage, while already being light in colour and non-sexually dimorphic. It fell to the study of Brown & Toft (1999) to compare the previously available data with their mitochondrial 12S rRNA sequence research and resolve the issue. Ignorance of this fact, however, led to attempts to resolve the evolutionary history and prehistoric biogeography of the cockatoos, which ultimately proved fruitless because they were based on invalid assumptions to start with. In consequence, the ancestors of the galah, the cockatiel and Major Mitchell's cockatoo were thought to have diverged from the main white cockatoo line at some stage prior to that group's main radiation this was indeed correct except for the placement of the cockatiel. Early DNA studies allied the galah with the cockatiel or placed it close to some Cacatua species of completely different appearance. Obvious morphological similarities are shared between the galah and the white cockatoos that make up the genus Cacatua and indeed the galah was initially described as Cacatua roseicapilla. It was separated in the monotypic genus Eolophus, but the further relationships were not clear. The classification of the galah was difficult. The changes brought by European settlement, which have been disastrous for many species, have been highly beneficial for the galah, because of the clearing of forests in fertile areas and the provision of stock-watering points in arid zones. While it is mostly found in inland areas, the galah is rapidly colonising coastal regions. It is common in all habitats in its range except for dense forests, especially those with high rainfall. It is common in metropolitan areas such as Adelaide, Perth, and Melbourne, and abundant in open habitats that offer at least some scattered trees for shelter. A large population expansion occurred in the 1960s following many escapees from captivity. The galah has been introduced to Tasmania through anthropogenic means and there were no sightings prior to 1848. The galah can be found throughout Australia, and is absent only from the driest areas and the far north of Cape York Peninsula.

It was time to head backto the center's Foothills Safari Camp. Iphotographed them with my digital camera, using a telephoto lens toenlarge and focus on the animals, which made the wire fenceinvisible in my pictures. Next door to the cheetahs in a separate enclosurelives a maned wolf, which looks like a long-legged fox. Nineteen cheetahs live here, in a large, fenced-in area wherethey have plenty of room to roam and run 89 cheetahs have beenborn on site. The center has a breeding program to helppreserve endangered animals, especially cheetahs - the animals Iwas most interested in photographing. Halfway through the two-hour tour, we reached the park'sintensive management area, where animals on the endangered specieslist are cared for. Buthaving been to Africa three times myself, I can say that the centeroffers an experience that, at times, feels like an authenticAfrican safari - especially when you come upon a small herd ofzebra or wildebeest, or an ostrich runs by, or you spot severalwhite rhinos resting in the shade.Īfter the giraffe had its fill, we continued on our tour, passing and photographing gemsbok gazelle and exotic-lookingantelopes like sable with their curved horns, greater kudu withtheir corkscrew antlers, and waterbuck, with their dramatic whitemarkings. Instead, we weretaking a guided tour at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, a 1,400-acreformer wild game ranch that's just an hour south of Dallas. My family and I were not on an African safari. I photograph the scene, wondering if Marcorealizes, at his young age, how lucky he is to be here. With his other hand, Marcopets the animal's face. He holds out his hand, which is filled withfeed that we bought at safari headquarters before our adventurebegan. The tall animalleans down in slow motion and comes face to face with my12-year-old son, Marco. Now an adult giraffe is only a few feet away. Smiles areeverywhere, especially on my wife Susan's face. Our vehicle holds 10 people beaming with excitement. After all, he says, these are wild creatures. Our guide tells us not to make any loud noisesor sudden moves. We are at a standstill, whispering among ourselvesabout the giraffes that are slowly and gracefully approaching. 14, 2003 - The sun is low in the cloudless sky, bathing our safari vehicle with beautiful, warm light. A portion of the proceeds from the program go towards supporting the work of a giraffe researcher in Africa.G L E N R O S E, Texas, Oct. Tickets to this special program are $30 per person (in addition to the park entrance fee) and include a one-hour interactive session about giraffes, meeting and feeding Buddy, a Giraffe Ambassador Field Study and Training Journal, a T-shirt, and a certificate. Last, but never least, you’ll meet Buddy, one of the Ranch’s rare twin giraffes who was raised by people and who, therefore, loves interacting with them. This animal science workshop discusses giraffe biology, feeding habits, species interaction in the wild, and how researchers across the world are studying them to help protect their dwindling numbers. Offered monthly (with the first one taking place on Saturday, November 21), The Giraffe Ambassador program, designed for ages 6+, introduces kids and adults to the wonders of giraffes. – Tiffany Soechting, Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch The Giraffe Ambassador Program We wanted to see what we could do –in Texas – to change that perception.” We began to really see how this species is in peril in the wild – and how it gets little publicity about their plight compared to other African species. We heard from media around the world and from giraffe researchers, too. The birth of our twin giraffes in 2013 opened up a whole new way of thinking for us. And, this week, the Ranch launches their exclusive Giraffe Ambassador Program! Two years ago, a rare set of giraffe twins, Buddy and Wassawa, were born at the Ranch. But did you know, giraffes have lived at Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch for more than 30 years? In fact, since 1984, 21 giraffes have been born there. Giraffes return to the San Antonio Zoo later this week (stay tuned to San Antonio Mom Blogs for more details about this!). It’s a big week for giraffes in San Antonio. Disclosure: My family and I attended a complimentary beta test of the new Giraffe Ambassador program at Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. This ordinary evening routine of his would eventually inspire him to become a puppeteer himself, going by the stage name Frankie Malachi. We adhere to the principle of originality and have successfully displayed this form of intangible cultural heritage in its original flavor. Why I Do What I Do is an original AsiaOne series where we showcase people with uncommon professions and what it takes to get there.Īs a child, Frankie Yeo loved watching The Muppets on television every night while having dinner. ‘The choreography, directing, lyrics, songs, vocals, and music are performed by individuals from local literary, art, and opera circles in Fengdu. They have often traveled abroad for cultural exchange in sister cities, and their performances have been very well received.įengdu wooden puppet opera performances come with an accompaniment of live traditional music and vocals, featuring instruments commonly seen in Sichuanese opera such as the ‘banhu’ soundboard, erhu, yueqin gongs, drums, and cymbals. There are highly professional puppet art troupes and research institutes in Beijing, Shanghai, Fujian, and Jiangsu, where they generally perform classic fairy tales and modern dramas familiar to Chinese people. Wooden puppetry is not just a national item of intangible cultural heritage but a treasure of Chinese folk art, including other varieties such as cloth, string, and stick puppets. Also, the technical demands can be very meticulous, so trainees need a lot of determination.’ ‘The most important quality for new inheritors is dedication, as the training needed for puppet shows is very arduous, and people find it difficult to persevere unless they have a strong love for wooden puppetry. Presently, the harsh realities of market demand and social environment mean that inheritance of Fengdu puppetry now faces extreme difficulties, which are further exacerbated by the demanding nature the art form puts on the shoulders of would-be inheritors. Inheritance faced with practical challenges A Longevity Show is available for private birthday events with health and long life blessings, with titles including ‘Eight Immortals Traverse the Seas’ and ‘Magu Bestows Longevity.’ Other shows include festive performances tailored for holidays and weddings, while commemorative ‘Yin’ programs offer wishes for departed relatives. The Children’s Show can be performed for prospective child-bearing couples. Her repertoire can also be tailored to the needs of specific occasions, such as the ‘rice seedling’ performance given during the planting season for the insect king Bodhisattva, which offers prayers for a smooth cultivation season and bumper harvest. The art form is a ‘living fossil’ of a traditional performance culture that reflects the faith and aesthetic values of the Fengdu people while inheriting the ideological themes of punishing evil, advocating benevolence, creating harmony, and venerating filial piety. Heritage takes on an innovative nuanceįengdu wooden puppetry originated from Sanjian Township in Fengdu County hundreds of years ago and belongs to the ‘Zhangtou’ wooden rod variety of traditional Chinese puppetry. In addition, she has also choreographed miniature programs such as the ‘Puppets’ Welcome’ and ‘Nichang Feather Dance, which have received lavish praise from all walks of society. She has led the performance team in creating the ‘Stories of Fengdu’ series that include puppet shows entitled ‘Marriage of the Netherworld King,’ ‘Zhong Kui the Ghost Capturer,’ ‘Drunken Caprices,’ ‘Wang Tangyuan’s Exorcism,’ ‘Mortal Affections to Deity.’ Her performances blend the intangible cultural heritage of wooden puppetry with the local culture and folklore stories of her native Fengdu, allowing historical classics to survive through innovative modern additions, an achievement she has realized thanks to generous support from the Culture and Tourism Commission and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center of Fengdu County. Having inherited the performance art from the previous generation master Jiang Yinghua, she studied under the nationally recognized first-tier actor Hua Meixia from the Yangzhou Puppet Research Institute. She first began learning the art form in 1995 and then eventually raised 500,000 yuan to establish the Fengdu County Yibai Wooden Puppetry Ensemble in 2016, which now trains budding puppeteers free of charge. Chongqing- Zhang Jing is a third-generation inheritor of Fengdu wooden puppetry currently, an item of intangible cultural heritage that is recognized at the county level. Of course, composition covers a lot of ground like the blanket term it is, and it includes common tools like the rule of thirds, leading lines, depth of field, negative space, contrast, and so on. It does not store any personal data. When we analyze what it is that catches our eye in the photos we love, it usually comes down to two things: the significance of the moment and/or composition. The color wheel can help simplify color selection. Yellow works well with greens and oranges.Soft oranges create a feeling of warmth. With practice, you can learn to trust your eye when deciding which colors really work together. But as with any set of color rules, these rules are true most of the time, but not all of the time. Here are a few simple rules for using the this representation of color to create themes. While this representation of color is not used directly by chemists to formulate specific colors, it is very helpful to those planning color schemes. In the paint industry, the color wheel is used to help designers and consumers understand color well enough to create color schemes for homes and businesses. All colors from yellow-green to red-purple are called “cool” colors. All the colors from pure red to pure yellow are called “warm” colors. They are formed by mixing a secondary color with one of the primary colors adjacent to it on the circle. Tertiary (third) colors are the third level of mixed RYB colors and consists of six colors. The secondary colors appear between the two primary colors that make up that secondary color. These are created by mixing equal amounts of two primary colors. There are three secondary colors, Orange, Green and Purple. Note that each complementary pair consists of one warm color and one cool color. These colors have interesting effects on each other, as we’ll discuss later. The primary color directly across from a secondary color on the wheel is called its “opposite” or “complementary” color. Mixing pigments from the three primary colors together will make brown. These three colors can be combined to form any of the other colors on the spectrum. They are called “primary” (first) because these colors are not based on any other colors. The primary colors are Red, Yellow and Blue. Note that black and white do not appear on the wheel, but do play a role in color space and characteristics of color. The color wheel is helpful for understanding the relationships between colors for art, design planning and color schemes. Google returns a response with code 400 when a keyword is > 100 characters. So a small country where 80% of the queries are for “Google” will get twice the score of a giant country where only 40% of the queries are for that term. When using the interestbyregionmodule, a higher value means a higher proportion of all queries, not a higher absolute query count. This is something easily observable in the Google Trends UI, which sometimes offers several topics for the same phrase. Search terms and Topics are measured differently, so relatedTopics will not work with comparisons that contain both Search terms and Topics. Search terms and topics are two different things Before you begin you must be aware of these few things: 1. granularTimeResolution - Boolean that dictates if the results should be given in a finer time resolution (if startTime and endTime is less than one day, this should be set to true)Īre there any limitations to using the Pytrends Google Trends API?.resolution is specific to the interestByRegion method. resolution - Granularity of the geo search (enumerated string ).(enumerated string the latter relating to Google Shopping results) property - Google property to filter on.category - the category to search within ( number defaults to all categories).timezone - Timezone ( number defaults to the time zone difference, in minutes, from UTC to current locale (host system settings)).hl - Preferred language ( string defaults to English).geo - location of interest ( string or arrayif you wish to provide separate locations for each keyword). If endTime is not provided, the current date is selected. endTime - End of the time period of interest ( new Date() object). If startTime is not provided, date of January 1, 2004, is assumed as this is the oldest available google trends data startTime - Start of the time period of interest ( new Date() object).keyword (required) - Target search term(s) string or array. The optionsObject is an object with the following options keys: const googleTrends = require('google-trends-api') If no callback is provided, then a promise is returned. The callback is an optional function, where the first parameter is an error and the second parameter is the result. There are two objects that you can specify parameters for: What parameters can you specify in your queries? We will explore the different methods that are available in the API for pulling this data in a bit, alongside how the syntax for each of these methods looks like. Related to a particular keyword you provide to the API, you can pull the following data: What data can you pull with the Google Trends API? What do Google Trends values actually denote? When using an API, this time and effort are cut dramatically. Manually researching and copying data from the Google Trends site is a research and time-intensive process. There is no problem with just using the web interface, however, when doing a large-scale project, which requires building a large dataset - this might become very cumbersome. Why use the Google Trends API instead of the Google Trends Web interface? I will also answer some FAQs about Google Trends and most importantly - address the limitations of using the API and the data. In this article, I will share some insights on what you can do with Pytrends, how to do basic data pulls, providing snippets of Python code along the way. The Python package can be used for automation of different processes such as quickly fetching data that can be used for more analyses later on. Pytrends is an unofficial Google Trends API that provides different methods to download reports of trending results from google trends. Google Trends is a public platform that you can use to analyze interest over time for a given topic, search term, and even company. A value of 0 indicates a location where there was not enough data for this term. According to Google Trends, the values are calculated on a scale from 0 to 100, where 100 is the location with the most popularity as a fraction of total searches in that location, a value of 50 indicates a location that is half as popular. If the entrance floor grid is in a recessed floor, refer to the precautions below for additional information. If you're unable to remove the grid yourself (or don't feel comfortable doing so), contact a professional who specializes in industrial flooring. Removing a floor grid can be tricky if it's rusted through. Floor grids can come apart after significant erosion occurs. If you see that your entrance floor grid is damaged (for example, it’s rusted or falling apart), you should replace it immediately because it could pose a safety hazard. When To Replace An Industrial Entrance Floor Grid If the grid has some sort of fabric on it, refer to the entrance floor mat section above for additional cleaning information. Don't let any moisture remain on the grid for an extended period of time because it could lead to rusting. If you use a towel or other absorbent material, be sure that it's clean and dry first. You can do this by using an absorbent material (like a towel) or a high-powered fan. If you're unsure what type of cleaner to use on your particular grid, consult with the manufacturer or an industrial flooring professional.įinally, you should dry the grid as soon as possible. If the grid is made of metal (like aluminum) or steel, it may be necessary to use an anti-corrosion cleaner on it. Use a cleaning product designed for your specific material. Next, rinse the grid with water until it's clean. You can use a broom or vacuum to do this, or a specialty brush if you have one. How To Clean An Industrial Entrance Floor Gridįirst, sift through the grid and remove any debris that may have accumulated. Sometimes they’re designed to be installed in a recessed floor, but not always. They're typically placed at the entrance of a building or facility, or in a high-traffic liminal space or area. Entrance Floor GridsĮntrance floor grids are typically made of metal, steel, or plastic, and are used to prevent slipping and to trap dirt, dust, and debris. If you're not sure if your mat needs to be replaced, it might be best to consult safe flooring experts for advice. An entrance mat that's worn out or damaged may not protect your floors from slipping hazards, or may be a hazard itself. When evaluating whether or not to replace your entrance floor mat, consider the safety of you, your customers, employees, vendors, and other personnel who may be on your property at any time. If you're unsure, check the manufacturer's recommendations. You should replace your mat when it's no longer able to protect the floors from dirt, grime, and moisture, or when it becomes too worn or unsightly. When To Replace An Industrial Entrance Floor Mat The latter method is preferable if it’s a hot and sunny day with no wind or debris flying around, assuming you have a clean place to hang or spread out the mat. You can do this by using a fan or a hairdryer, or by placing the mat in direct sunlight. If the mat is made of rubber or vinyl, you may need to use a cleaner that's specifically designed for these materials (such as a floor cleaner).Īfter the soap is rinsed away completely, you need to dry the floor mat quickly to prevent mold and mildew. You can also use a commercial cleaner designed for mats, or just dish soap or liquid laundry detergent. Next, you can rinse or spray the mat with a mixture of water and soap (or detergent). If you use a vacuum, be sure to use a soft brush attachment if needed. You can use a broom or a vacuum, but be careful not to damage the mat. The first step in cleaning your entrance floor mat is to remove any dirt or debris. How To Clean An Industrial Entrance Floor Mat They are typically made of rubber or vinyl, but can also include a variety of additional materials, like a layer of foam or a non-skid backing. Entrance Floor MatsĮntrance floor mats are the first line of defense against dirt, grime, and water. They're designed for different uses, so it's important to know the differences between them. Mats, Grids, & Grilles: What’s The Difference?Ĭommercial floor mats come in a wide variety of materials, shapes, and sizes. Industrial floor mats, grids, and grilles are designed to be cleaned with a variety of cleaning products, but there are a few tips that will make the job easier and save you money. But over time, they can become dirty, stained, damaged, and potentially even unsafe. They're designed to be durable, easy to clean, and to prevent slipping (which could lead to injury and lawsuits).
